Botswana Introduces Women and Sport Botswana Special Award
Women and Sport Botswana (WASBO) has taken the initiative to introduce a WASBO Special award as part of the Annual Botswana National Sports Awards. The award seeks to recognize an individual (female or male ) and or a group making significant contribution to the growth of women sport in Botswana.
Women and Sport Botswana (WASBO) has taken the initiative to introduce a WASBO Special award as part of the Annual Botswana National Sports Awards.
The award seeks to recognise an individual (female or male ) and or a group making significant contribution to the growth of women sport in Botswana.
The initiative is in line with the Botswana Gender and Sport Strategy, IWG Legacies, WASBO Strategy as well as the establishment and functions of the Botswana National Sports Commission, specifically; Promotion and inclusion of girls and women in sport as per the BNSC Act of 2014.
The aim of the initiative is to serve as a source of recognition and motivation for those contributing to the cause and encouragement to those who have not taken the steps yet to contribute to the growth of women's sport in Botswana.
Despite the different initiatives and efforts made to grow women sport in different areas equality has not yet been attained.
The award follows the process below:
- WASBO has set the selection criteria
- Affiliates submit names and profiles of nominees just as they do for other nominees for the awards
- WASBO has the discretion to go out and look for women who are making an impact
- The name of the winner is only be unveiled at the awards ceremony by WASBO Chairperson or WASBO Representative annually
- The effective date for the award was 2020
- The Winner for the 2020 Award was Anastacia Sibanda from BOPA
